Norton reaches EMASS Super Bowl

NYFC Press Release – 5th Grade Football Team reaches the 2022 EMASS Super Bowl

Norton, MA – In the nine years since the NYFC was founded, they have sent four teams to the Super Bowl. With an upset of the #1 Easton Tigers, the 2022 Fifth Grade Team will now become the fifth team to accomplish the feat tomorrow at Franklin High School when they take on North Attleboro at 10:30AM.

The 5th Grade Playoff journey began with a 32-0 victory over a Waltham team that they had just lost to a week earlier. The team was performing on all cylinders and Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator BJ Salvo said that the team was “different… from the moment they came to the field, they were ready. I knew that we were going to win the game right from warmups.” After the 1st round victory, the toughest test came by playing the number one seed and undefeated Easton Tigers, a team that they had lost to as well during the season by double digits at Oliver Ames in their house and in Easton’s opening drive they took the ball down 70 yards for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead. That’s when according to Offensive Coordinator Matt Kline they “turned on the light switch and broke it to keep it on.” Norton’s Jackson Rose took the first offensive play 70 yards to the house for a Norton Touchdown and with a successful extra point Norton was up 7-6 and didn’t look back. Coach Kline said, “Everything about that play was exactly what we are about as a team, Jackson’s hard work, the entire offensive line creating a great hole for him to go through, our skilled position players blocking down field and our extra point team running our extra point play to perfection. It’s never been about one player; it has been about every single one of our rostered players.” After another Rose touchdown and the defense holding Easton at bay, your 5th Grade Team is heading to the Super Bowl. Coach Salvo said “Our defense, every single game got better. They went from a team who earlier this season looked lost against this same Tigers team, to a group of brothers and sisters who through their hard work and dedication showed that as one they cannot be stopped.”

The Super Bowl is the third rematch of a team that Norton will face a team that they lost to earlier in the season. Earlier this season, in a double overtime thriller lost to North Attleboro and Coach Kline is excited for this matchup. “We are a very different team from a few weeks ago, our offensive is doing all the fundamentals that we need them to do to move the chains. Our goal is to do exactly that against North Attleboro.” Coach BJ Salvo is appreciative of all the support from the Norton Community. “From the loud support from our fans in the stands, helping turn every field we go to from their field to our field is huge for us. The team feeds off the noise and they just play better. We have the town posting all over town, our schools and businesses are all behind our team and because of their support our team is ready to represent our town and hopefully we will bring home the league’s third Super Bowl Championship. Thank you to everyone and see you all at our send off.”

Before the Super Bowl tomorrow, the NYFC is having a Super Bowl Send Off at 8:15AM at the Yelle School Bus Parking Lot area. Be there with Purple Pride and help us wake up the town as we get ready to make history. The Super Bowl will be played at Franklin High School with kickoff scheduled at 10:30AM.
