MA vs CT Regional Semis

AYF New England Semi-Regional Predictions

11/8/2022

After going 5 for 6 in CTYFC Championship predictions, with shocking results from the 13U division, we’re back with predictions for semi-finals in the AYF New England Region - CT vs. MA edition. Springfield vs. Lynn seems to be the theme of Saturday’s matchups in Springfield, (not from) MA.

8U - Meriden Raiders vs. Worcester Vikings

  • Meriden did not win their state title but was presented an opportunity to represent the state of Connecticut on Saturday. Worcester Vikings took home the MA state championship after beating a good Lynn team who advanced to the championship by beating the other Lynn (Green) team in the playoffs. Vikings are good, but football is a little different in Connecticut AYF.

Meriden 20 Worcester 6

10U - Springfield Tigers vs. Lynn Rams

  • Springfield vs. Lynn game 1. The Springfield Tigers have come off one of the strongest second half of the season finishes that I’ve witnessed in youth football, beating both the teams that beat them to go on to win a state championship. Lynn advanced to the state championship by beating the other Lynn team as well, which seems like a theme in Eastern MA AYF. We do have something to base our predictions off of; both these teams scrimmaged earlier this season and Springfield was not challenged, they also both played the Worcester Cowboys and Springfield dominated them as Lynn lost to them. I think that’s all we need to predict the outcome of this game.

  • Please note that Lynn played and defeated the Central Ma Championships, Worcester Vikings, in order to advance to the regional semifinals. [editorial note]

Springfield 27

Lynn 7

11U - Springfield Tigers vs. Lynn Rams

  • The track team is arguably the best 11U team in New England, this is the first we’ve heard of Lynn. Again, here’s another Lynn team that automatically advances to the state championship due to the lack of teams in Eastern MA AYF. It’s fair to say that they haven’t played anybody, and Saturday will show everyone exactly what’s meant by this. Springfield’s been stalling in the second half the past couple of games, but as usual, they’ll be racing to the end zone the first half, and Lynn won’t be able to catch up.

  • Please note that Lynn played and defeated Leominster 26 - 13 in the State Championships (Central Ma champions) [editorial note]

Springfield 30

Lynn 0 12U Springfield Tigers vs. Lynn Rams

  • Western Mass vs. Eastern Mass showdown concludes with this highly anticipated matchup between The Tigers and The Rams. This Lynn team beat everyone they played in Central MA AYF and deserved to get pushed through to the championship game, convincingly beating Merrimack Valley. The Springfield Tigers finally got over the hump and beat a tough Norwich Wildcats team 3 times this year, the 3rd game being for a state championship. I don’t think Lynn has played a team remotely close to Norwich, let alone Springfield. Though Lynn believes they have a chance, and their allies in Eastern MA are rallying behind them, it will be a long disappointing ride home after Saturday's results.

  • Please note that Lynn played and defeated Merrimack Valley in the State Champions (Central Ma Champions0 [editorial note]

Springfield 38

Lynn 12

13U New Britain Hurricanes vs. Worcester Cowboys

  • New Britain is coming off of a huge upset win against Norwich in the state championship, and if they play like they played this past weekend, they will not be stopped. Worcester has been dominant in their division this year and has a history of doing so. They made it to the regional finals last year and fell to the same group of players that New Britain beat in the CT state championship. Paying close attention to both leagues, there’s no doubt that CT AYF is stronger than MA AYF, and because of that, The Hurricanes will complete the CT vs. MA sweep.

New Britain 19

Worcester 13
